Terms of Reference: Mikey’s Legacy Foundation

  1. Legal Status

    Mikey’s Legacy Foundation (the “Foundation”) is a Society under the Societies Act (British Columbia) that has applied for charitable status under the Income Tax Act (Canada). The Foundation shall operate exclusively for charitable purposes and in compliance with applicable provincial and federal legislation.

  2. Purpose

    The primary purpose of the Foundation is to support registered charities engaged in the advancement of mental health, including prevention, treatment, research, education and public awareness within British Columbia, with the potential to extend such support to other Canadian provinces. The focus of the Foundation centers on men’s mental health but will also carefully consider the needs of registered charities with broader mental health objectives.

  3. Objectives

    To improve mental health outcomes by funding and supporting qualified donees delivering services, advancing research, promoting education and reducing stigma associated with mental illness.

  4. Powers & Activities

    Subject to the provisions of the Societies Act (British Columbia), the Foundation may:

  • provide financial support to qualified donees that deliver mental health services and programs;

  • provide education and public awareness initiatives.

  • make grants to registered charities under the Income Tax Act (Canada)

  • partner with other foundations, corporations and/or public institutions.

  • convene interested stakeholders to promote knowledge and resource sharing.
